For class, consider how the use of sound and music creates image, set mood, underscore story, and help organize the narrative. Pay attention to when the sound and music comes in and at what level, as well as when there is only voice playing on the audio track. And do the sound and music serve other purposes in the podcasts?

Third Coast International Audio Festival. Podcasts from Chicago Public Radio's audio festival that are chosen from a broad field of submissions.

More Jonathan Goldstein. If his segment of the This American Life episode "Plan B" about the telemarketer captured your imagination, check out his myspace page: Wiretap. It's comedy. The Fed and Barney segment is especially hilarious. Goldstein uses phone conversations and sounds associated with phones to create audio narratives. The concept is simple yet effective, and the humor is dark. And we get to eavesdrop on the dialogue.
